Upcoming films

ON LOCATION: MEMPHIS invites you to see some great flicks this summer! Not just the blockbuster films, but those well-kept secrets of independent and international films. Here's what we recommend for the next few weeks:

ROMAN DE GARE - The successful novelist Judith Ralitzer is interrogated in the police station about the disappearance of her ghost-writer. A serial-killer escapes from a prison in Paris. A missing school teacher leaves his wife and children. In the road, the annoying and stressed hairdresser Hughette is left in a gas station by her fianci Paul while driving to the poor farm of her family in the country. A mysterious man offers a ride to her and she invites him to assume the identity of Paul during 24 hours to not disappoint her mother. Who might be the unknown man and what is real and what is fiction?

This French film has played at CANNES and the COPENHAGEN INTERNATIONAL FILM FEST. Rated R

Now showing at Malco's Ridgeway Four - www.malco.com - THROUGH THIS THURSDAY, AUGUST 7 ONLY!

ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD - There is a hidden society at the end of the world. One thousand men and women live together under unbelievably close quarters in Antarctica, risking their lives and sanity in search of cutting-edge science. Now, for the first time, an outsider has been admitted. In his first documentary since GRIZZLY MAN, Werner Herzog, accompanied only by his camerman, traveled to Antarctica, with rare access to the raw beauty and raw humanity of the ultimate Down Under. ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD, Herzog s latest meditation on nature, explores this land of Fire, Ice and corrosive Solitude. Rated G.

Starts Friday, August 8 at Malco's Ridgeway Four
